November Tracker Install

This page has a bunch of notes, from setting up the trackers in November 2014.

Hardware Installation

  • Wienier Power Supplies:
    • Mains Power supply connected through Daresbury control system,
    • 5V TTL signal fanned out from the Fermilab rack monitor.
    • Cryo2 PSU shows over voltage protection
    • This was caused by a short between the 5V5 rail and the cryostat, using an over tight cable tie.
    • In addition there was a broken sense wire (probably manhandling).
  • VME Crates:
    Upstream Rack contains DAQ crate and C&M Crate.
    Downstream Rack contains DAQ crate.
  • AFE Boards:
  • LVDS Cables

  • 1553 is the coaxial cable on the far left, connected to J26 shown above.
  • The Encoded clock signal is connected to the upper coaxial cable. This is provided from a VME fanout, configured with TTL Bar (inverted).
  • The integrations window is connected on the below cable (marked red).

Cryostat Cooling

  • Alan Recalibrated the Oxford ITC503's
    • Cryo 1,2,3 all have "good" calibrations.
    • Cryo 4 would not communicate, however a calibration was completed by hand.
    • The spare was pretty useless.
    • All numbers are slightly untrusted, Alan plans to try and replace.
  • Upstream Cryos:
    • Cryo 1 - 30m line, Charged 1.4MPa, After cooling for 2.5 days, temperatures: 82.3, 7.8, 7.4, insulating vacuum: 2.1E-7 Torr
    • Cryo 2 - 30m line, Charged 1.4MPa, After cooling for 2.5 days, temperatures: 82.4, 8.0, 7.5, insulating vacuum: 1.9E-6 Torr
    • Temperatures on the VLPCs read around 9K - no headroom for heaters to stabilise at 9K.
    • During setup compressors 1 & 2 blew the pressure relief valves.
  • Downstream Cryos:
    • Cryo3 - 10m line, charged 1.6MPa, temps: 82.5, 7.8, 7.0, vacuum: 3.1E-7
    • Cryo4, ?m line, charged 1.6MPa, temps: 71.1, 8.0, 6.7, vacuum: 3.8E-7

Assorted Troubleshooting:

  • If Temperatures read around 20k and are constant, connection to cassette is bad.
  • If VME crate Fails t establish connection, check that the a2818 driver is loaded from ~/a2818_Drv (probably)
    • If this fails, check the card is in the machine.
