Meeting 7-12-2016

Date: 7th Dec 2016
Time: 15:00 UK time
Attendance: Paul K, Alan, Adam, Ed, Melissa, Chris R,
Apologies:

Agenda and Minutes

Prev Actions:
  • Board testing in Tracker lab - EO - 4 tested, no temp or bias calib as yet.
  • Ed is going to be looking at improving pattern rec with Adam.
  • Electronics noise MC/Data comparison: CHeidt and Ed
  • C. Heidt: MC documentation needs updating

New Actions:
Efficiency:
Action: Adam will send test code to Ed
Action: Chris will provide the means to run MC to Ed
Action: Ed to run MC and then look at ideal helix reconstruction
Action: Paul and all to look at Adams code and run with unit test.
Action: Ed to add radius as a func of z and phi/z
ACTION: Melissa to contact Sumitomo UK and find lead time on a repair on a failed cold head in an emergency, (2-3 days to warm and 2-3 days to dry which must be added to the lead time).
ACTION: Ed, Spare Boards still need temp on RH boards and bias calib on LH boards. Will do it in a week in January.

Data Taking Summary MAU, EO, PK, AD

  • Reconstruction of real data MAU
  • What can we tell with field PK
  • MC data comparison CHeidt and EO, MAU

Efficiency DS Round table discussion,

It looks as though there are 7% US and 15% DS 5 spacepoint tracks (doublets (20% DS) and triplets) that are not reconstructed. This seems to be happening in Pat rec (hence Kalman never gets the tracks from pat rec) and is more prevalent at low momentum.

Looking at Pat rec loosening the circle cut makes no difference, loosening sz (distance travelled around the cirle a straight line a s function of z) cut makes a big difference.

Pat rec makes a circle cut to contain 5 spacepoints in a circle, then calculates how many rotations a track has made through the tracker, then makes a straight line sz fit. It is this rotations code that is not working well. Adam has never been able to find a good solution. Adam has sent the code that has the problem ~100 lines using ratio of distance between tracker stations ratio of turning angle (angle of a clockface) between spacepoints. Even in ideal magnetic alignment it doesn't work well.

Paul K has his own version which he will try to run and see if it works.

Ed will look event by event with some ideal helix' using Adam's test code. Look at ideal tracks from MC and continue from there.

Descoped cooling Tracker design AD

Noise estimate 10 background to 1 real but from MTA 3 noise per 1 real therefore 4 stations are being designed to deal with this effect.
Geoff had had a look and has managed to get the space to work with 4 stations.

Status of spares: EO CMW

  • cold heads, boards (calib) etc

Melissa: Cold heads at 17k hours will reach 20k at end of march cycle - this is the worry point according to Craig and Josef. There is a risk in warming up but we have a risk either way so a spare or two would be good!

Alan: We could warm all up and refurbish in the shutdown, but doesn't recommend.

Discussion of nervousness at this in case things go wrong.

ACTION: Melissa to contact Sumitomo UK and find lead time on a repair on a failed cold head in an emergency, (2-3 days to warm and 2-3 days to dry which must be added to the lead time).

Currently 0.5 degrees of headroom on cold head temps. <9.5deg

Spare Boards still need temp on RH boards and bias calib on LH boards. Will do it in a week in January.

2. Software: PK, AD, CHunt, CHeidt

  • Performance and Analysis
  • Validation script
  • Geometry,
  • Calibrations, Configurations
    - Fairly easy to keep calibrations up to date. Not completely automated but will be following more tests.
  • Monte Carlo
    - Documentation still outstanding, all else good.
  • Pattern Recognition
  • Kalman
  • Online Displays
