Training

Get permission to enter R5.4 from ISIS MCR
1 - 2 pm (approx) Friday 25th : Control room familiarisation

Configuration

  • No spectrometer solenoids
  • the DS PSU will be run in local mode, and at fixed current, until a ramp-circuit fault has been identified & fixed.
    It is imperative that the DS PSU is operated only by designated DS experts with appropriate
    experience - ie Mark Tucker, Vicky Bayliss, and myself. The current is currently set to 443 A.
  • At end of shift on the weekend we will go to standby (both require the MOM) (see checklist)

Known Issues

  • Run control will need to be killed and restarted from the console between runs
  • Magnet currents in the CDB are the right numbers but the wrong magnets. Continue using the run conditions spreadsheet
  • On OnRec, Cerenkov plots are not coming through. Neither is one of the SciFi plot.

New Shift Checklist

A shift checklist has been constructed. In the future this will be a web-form, but for now we have paper
forms to fill out. They can be found in a binder in the control room. The form is on miceMine here

Please go through the checklist at least every two hours.

Hall probe monitoring and operation

Melissa would like shifters to take data with the hall probes once per shift. The operating instructions can be found here

Task 5 : CKOV momentum scan run

  • We will do a momentum scan on the pion momentum. There should be enough statistics with only 2000 actuations each run.
  • Note: Due to the 315A limit on the quad currents, these settings are too high in momentum. Please ask a beam expert (or the MOM) to re-tune
    the current settings for the following momenta : 240, 260, 280, 300, 320, 340 MeV/c before starting this task

Task 6 : CKOV HV scan

Do this only if remote control of the CKOV HV is both present and useable. If there are any doubts, bypass this task

  • Should have David present when this is done
  • Can be carried out simultaneously and parasitically with a TOF calibration run on electron beam
  • TOF run could be split into 5 runs with 5000 pulses each run, scanning in a range of +- 50 V around nominal settings for CKOV HV settings

Once complete run to restore to normal beam settings:

Notes: In run 7257 830 spills collected. Assume ~1 noise hit in TOF2/TOF1 per spill = 830 noise hits
TOF2/TOF1 scalars: 4835/19737 = 25%
TOF2/TOF1 = 20%
23 Triggers per spill.

Would like ~5K hits in TOF2 for each setting. => 25K Particle Triggers in TOF1.
Could Halve these values if needed...
