MICE Muon Beam Test + Downstream PID Detector Runs - April 18/19¶
The purpose of the run is to:¶
- Ensure that the downstream PID detectors are operating as expected
- Take any calibration data required for the PID detectors
- Repeat Step I with setting that Jaroslaw will provide

Prerequisites¶
Data Requested¶
Beamline Configurations¶
- Decay Solenoid MAY be available
- We expect to be running with 2V beamloss and beam bump active.
Preparation¶
- We will run beam into the hall so need to secure the MICE Hall
- Target needs to be ready
- BeamLine elements need to be ready
- Detectors need to be ready
- Controls needs to be ready
- DAQ needs to be ready
- OnMon and OnRec need to be ready
- Data Mover needs to be ready
Shifter target training¶
- on Friday afternoon after Hall closeup - somewhere between 15:00-17:00
Data Plan¶
Test on Friday afternoon¶
- The main goal of this run is testing functionality of systems before the week-end data taking
- The beam line will be set for Reference Run with Decay Solenoid.
- We will pulse the target for ~2h

Note Friday reference will be used to try to debug the TOF Gain issue (See wiki minutes). We will want to
- do some sanity checks
- change HV by 20% on selected channels and check the effect
Durga will be there to manage this.
Reference runs.¶
Please do a reference run using the settings in the table above as close as possible to the start of each shift
Beamline pre-commissioning activities¶

*The beam line will be now set to the new setting based on (6, 200), but with different setting in Q4-Q7. There is a risk of Q4 tripping. This setting aims to prepare matching including Diffuser in a future. Shifters do not need to worry about the Diffuser now.

Beamline pre-commissioning (search for setting for commissioning of downstream detectors without B field)¶
- The main goal of these activities is to find setting to improve particle rate in downstream detectors in the absence of B field from SC solenoids.
- The trigger needs to be set at TOF1 (we need tracks recorded in TOF0, TOF1 and TOF2).
- We aim to measure rate in downstream detectors using TOF2
- We need 10000 analysable muons in TOF1 for phase space reconstruction.
Please do each run in units of 1000 pulses each You will need to manually stop and start the run at 1000 pulses. For 5000 pulses we need 5 runs of 1000 pulses each.

Finish¶
- Shutdown target and re-open Hall for Monday
Notes¶
*It is possible that people working in Rack Room 2 on the tracker will request a controlled access to the Hall.
If this is done the standard procedure (in a checklist) must be followed.
*There will be no offline reconstruction between 4pm and 12am on Saturday afternoon/evening. This is not a problem
for the shifters.
