Shifter hours of service

See the shift schedule, otherwise hours are:

MOM: 08:00 - 10:00 and 18:00-20:00
Lead shifter 10:00 - 18:00
Shifter1 08:00 - 16:00
Shifter2 12:00 - 20:00
  • Note that we will need to inform ISIS crew about new PPS procedures and hall access if we are locking the hall overnight (Action on MacWaters cc MOM)

Data Requested

  • Beamline optimisation for rate at TOF2 (Blondel)
  • PID data for pion/muon discrimination using e.g. KL (Orestano)
    • rate has factor 3 reduction for TOF2 distance, little reduction for DS off
    • Run 3454, 3256; seek to get same rate
  • TOF calibration (Rajaram/Rogers)
    • Calibrate TOF2 in new position (copy run 3511?)
    • Check calibration of TOF1 (copy run 3248?)
    • Compare calibration as a function of quad settings (is calibration dependent on path length of electrons)
  • Ckov data (Cremaldi)
  • Magnet alignment study (Overton)?
  • Hall PPS tests (Nebrensky)

Reference runs

  • Reference runs at the beginning of every day

Beamline optimisation for rate at TOF2

  • I think the job here is to "tweak the currents" trying to improve rate. Not sure how that can go...

PID data

Number of pulses Beamloss (V) Trigger Proton absorber Q1 Q2 Q3 D1 DS D2 Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7 Q8 Q9 Polarity
10000 4 TOF1 29 mm 48.41 88.48 54.13 169.11 0 84.45 147.28 197.51 130.87 126.61 191.46 163.35 +

  • Want 100k-200k triggers for each data set

TOF Calibration

10000 4 TOF1 29 mm 38.7 48.3 33.5 115.5 0 59.7 97.2 130.3 86.1 51.2 76.6 64.4 +

5000 4 TOF1 29 mm 38.7 48.3 33.5 115.5 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 +
  • If DS is off, take more pulses; aim to get ~ 40k triggers, need ~ 1000 electrons per pixel to do the fits; when quads are off, we don't need to calibrate all the pixels, only a few as a cross-check

The requirements are a little different for the timewalk and trigger/t0 calibrations.
But, roughly ~200 particles /per pixel/ in a station should satisfy all the pieces.

If you're interested in a little more detail:
I am attaching XY plots from the Dec'11 calibration data to give some idea of what we had.
- For TOF0 -- the timewalk calibration failed for 4 slabs -- the 2 slabs at the bottom and the 2 at the top.
- For TOF1 -- which was the trigger station -- the trigger calibration failed for pixels (XY) = (0,0) (0,1) (0,5) (0,6) (6,0) (6,1) (6,5) (6,6)

Ckov Data

  • Just want Ckov turned on, no other special request

Magnet Alignment Study

From email from Ed Overton:
- Preferably using a positive beamline.
- Repeating some previous runs, so see #2808
- G4BL suggests quad scans are still good even with no DS

For all scans use:

Number of pulses Beamloss (V) Trigger Proton absorber Q1 Q2 Q3 D1 DS D2 Q4 Q5 Q6 Q7 Q8 Q9
250 4 TOF1 83 mm 68.0 84.9 59.0 203.0 -- 94.32 176.8 237.1 157.2 * * *

Hall PPS Tests (Henry)

Henry wants to test the PPS with some obscure use-cases at the end of the shift on Monday, 5th August (related to dropping hall searches, etc.) It should take about 10 minutes at the end of the shift.

  • confirm no Muon Test permit during CE state - Confirmed DONE
  • test for Muon Test permit during SC Permit non-searched CE state - not possible :-( DONE
  • PK00 for Start Search - to be in PK press DONE
  • Cancel Search during Searching state - confirmed - DONE
  • confirm permit keys not removable while enabled - confirmed - DONE
  • Search point photos for user guide - DONE
