Joint MICE Experiment Management Office and MICE International Project Office

20th March 2018; 15:30 GMT
RAL, R1 2nd Floor East, CR26

Present: KL, ABr, PG, AK, SB, CR

  1. Introduction: KL
    • Goals for this meeting: review progress on field mapping and analysis.
    • Confirm plans for decommissioning etc. CW and DR were detained in the Hall, so these items could not be addressed.
  2. Notes of previous meeting and status of actions: All
    • Notes accepted. Status of actions:
      • CW: Organise test of QD/QP systems for SSs.
        • Done.
      • CW: Will draft short document to define repatriation.
        • Stands.
  3. Hall status, stability of systems, planning for decommissioning and making safe to be complete by 31Mar18: CW
    • Systems in the Hall are sufficiently stable for the magnets to be run. However, SSU is somewhat less stable cryogenically that it was formerly.
  4. Status of magnetic survey : CW
    • Mapping runs at 0A and 30A have been taken. SSD is now being ramped to 2T. Online analysis of the data indicates that the effect of the PRY end plate and can see and there is some azimuthal dependence of the field, presumably due to the PRY side plates.
  5. Plans for equipment repatriation: CW
    • LiH needs to be inspected at RAL before it is sent. This will be organised.
  6. Software and computing status: DR
    • No report from DR this week. CR commented that the scattering paper is blocked by reprocessing and that DR is aware. The issue in TOF geometry that arises because of the thickness of the survey probes needs to be taken into account to remove a small offset in the time of flight.
    • DR is preparing a doucment to define the tasks that must be covered when H.Nebrensky leaves the experiment.
  7. Paper status and plans: CR
    • See notes at: 2018-03-20_paper-status . Points noted:
      • Critical issue is to pick up the TOF-geometry issue to release the processing for John Nugent's scattering analysis. Work should continue on the resolution of the asymmetry in the mean time.
  8. AOB
    • Instructions have been received from STFC on the documentation required for the close-out review. KL has assigned writing tasks, these were discussed.

Summary of actions:

  • CW: Will draft short document to define repatriation.
