The control unit for the neutron monitor should be locked shut to prevent access to the innards, but the key has broken off in the locking handle preventing it being locked.

The lock should be replaced - it is a purely mechanical fitting so might be easily replaceable off-the-shelf.

The broken key was removed, but the locking mechanism is inoperative.

Stewart contacted manufacturer last autumn, but they couldn't be bothered...

I (Henry) just checked with Frances Burge - OK to get part and do it ourselves, if that's the only way. e.g. RS 347-8715, 195-9537

This has now been completed, although I'm not 100% sure when the work was done.

I opened it up just now (which I shouldn't have been able to) - is it locked at the moment?

Ah, in that case I clearly didn't check it properely. I had remembered it as being very easy to open, so when it didn't just twist open I thought it had been fixed. As annoying as anything else, is that this issue tracker doesn't allow me to re-open an issue!

Have asked Craig to purchase the lock Henry suggested earlier in the thread. Coming from RS, it should arrive tomorrow, so will try and fit it Tues or Wed. If it isn't fixed by then, I'll edit the issue tracker to allow re-opening, or start a new issue.

Umm - I've never actually measured the thing, working out those details was for the MOM/trained engineering staff/whoever...
