Description

Instead of hardcoded. It's currently hardcoded (and there are different formats for different imes)

Changes to the cabling information will not be allowed within the MAUS trunk until this feature is complete. Otherwise, we're in the situation of either asking the hardware people to wire it like the software (which is unfair on them) OR no longer being able to analyze step 1 data.

BLOCKS: tof cabling changes

PS: the comments in the file tofcabling.txt and the way the cabling is used in TofChannelMap.cc specify different formats. (ie. the third row isn't actualy TDC channel)

I see what you mean. The comment is not done correctly. The line "# ADC TDC TOF" should say, that the first 3 columns (crate board channel) are for ADC, the next 3 columns are for TDC and the last 6 columns are for TOF detector coordinates.

I've clarified that bit (I think) in MAUS. Figuring out how to get cabling (and calibration after that) into the config DB in any fashion that has intervals of validity will allow us to change cabling information if, for instance, somebody wires it up wrong or something changes.

I agree.
BTW there is an application in G4MICE, that uploads TOF calibration into the config DB. It is called TofCalib2CDB and is well documented

It's great that there's already an application. I think Antony wants to make the format better than just uploading textfiles. Also: does TOF cabling get read out from teh CDB after it's uploaded?

This could be a useful chat to have at the pre-CM meeting.

TofCalib2CDB application uploads the calibration (not the cabling). When we determine the format of the cabling in the CDB we can make a similar application for uploading of the cabling.

Ah, sorry, my fault, misread. Is the calibration uploaded as a text file? And is there code to retrieve it?

No, the calibration is not uploaded as a text file. See some of the David Forrest's presentation.
The answer of the second question is Yes. There is a code to retrieve it. Just have a look in the code of the application.
It is simple and well documented.

PS: Be careful. In fact NO CALIBRATION is uploaded to the MICE CDB, because this can be done only from the MICE Control Room. I tested the application using a mirror of the database installed on my laptop.
