Notes of discussion on EMR at CM40, 2014-10-28¶
- Dan Kaplan CORRECTION: Spill period is not 1 second it is something like 128/50 s.
- Chris Rogers ACTION: Clean up time of flight plot on Slide 7; axis needs to be a sensible variable (momentum at target is ill-conceived).
- John Cobb ACTION: Demonstrate that the pion is stopping or clean up the wording for plot of stopping pion on slide 9
- John Cobb ACTION: Provide a quantitative estimate of the range plotted on slide 11.
- Dan Kaplan ACTION: Electron momentum is not known on slide 12 so cannot plot electron momentum. Need to correct the plot.
- Dan Kaplan ACTION: Explain how the momentum on slide 12 is calculated for pions and muons.
- Paul Soler ACTION: Range should be in units of distance, not bars (which are ill-defined)
- Dan Kaplan ACTION: Make a PID efficiency estimation.
- John Cobb ACTION: Include a discussion on the purpose of the EMR (rejecting < 100 MeV/c electrons) and include a demonstration that the EMR can perform this task.
- Ryan Bayes ACTION: Remake the plots using a published version of MAUS. In principle this should use a vetted reconstruction dataset i.e. a reconstruction sample reconstructed on the GRID.
Nb: names in bold are the main people who asked the question; actions are on the paper lead author or delegate.

As requested by Victoria, I hereby upload the latest version of the EMR paper complying by the MICE paper template.
Nevertheless, there are several critical issues that need to be asserted before this paper is publishable:
1) Correct the momentum at the EMR for the energy loss in TOF2 and KL;
2) Redefine the characteristic of the electrons entering the EMR, develop a general electron sample;
3) Quantify the electron rejection efficiency and show that it's good enough;
4) Develop and study sensible parameters that provide 3) for every possible momentum.
I am currently developing a new version of the analysis that will include an unarguable proof that the EMR serves its purpose. Preliminary results of this analysis have shown that the rejection is outstanding using two simple parameter cuts without reconstructing any tracks. This will be discussed extensively during the EMR paper discussion meeting in the week of Dec 8th.
