The Electron-Muon Ranger (EMR) is a totally |

active scintillator detector to be installed |

in the muon beam of the Muon Ionization Cooling |
| 7 |
Experiment (MICE) - the main R&D project for the |
| 8 |
future neutrino factory. |

It is aimed at measuring properties of low energy |
| 11 |
beam composed of muons, electrons and pions performing |
| 12 |
the identification particle by particle. |
| 13 |
|
| 14 |
The EMR is made of 48 intersecting layers. |
| 15 |
Each layer consists of 59 triangular scintillator bars. |
| 16 |
It is shown that the granularity of the detector makes |
| 17 |
it possible to identify tracks and measure particle |
| 18 |
ranges and shower shapes. The read-out is based on FPGA |
| 19 |
custom made electronics and comercially available modules. |

Currently it is being built at the University of Geneva |
| 22 |
and it is planned to install it in MICE in the first |
| 23 |
quarter of 2013. |
