Line 35 - TOF provides PID because of momentum selection in dipoles; should mention this.
Line 36 - "They" refers to the TOFs, which is subject of last but one sentence; so need to add in subject again i.e. "They" -> "The TOF detectors"
Figure 1 - "synchrotron)" -> "synchrotron"
Figure 4 - probably it has been discussed; what are the particles between 32 and 33 ns?
- I remember when we discussed that with Viktor we claimed slow pions and pions decaying in flight between the stations.
Was a "pion" beam defined anywhere?
- No, removed the term
Line 156 "energy deposition is defined as the sum of ADC products" -> "energy deposition is approximately proportional to"
Line 174 "This configuration did not leave dead areas in the detector for particles..." I think you mean something like "Triangular bars were chosen rather than rectangular bars so that tracks moving parallel to the detector axis could not travel along the gaps between bars."
Figure 9 caption - where is energy deposition? Is the axis "ADC product", as discussed in the text; if so the caption should say "ADC product" (and so should the axis label).
Line 212 "The inefficiency may be associated with muons that decay between TOF2 and the EMR" No. The distance between TOF2 and EMR is about 1 metre ~= 3 ns. Lifetime is 2200 ns. e^(-3/2200) = 0.9986 which can't explain a 0.9856 inefficiency - out by order of magnitude. Nb: these are all muons having gamma > 3.
- That can be a part of the inefficiency. I assume this is rather a geometrycal/detector inefficiency assembling the space points from the hits, together with spurios particles creating fake additional hits (e.g. wrong hit-bunch identification which leads to missing the companion perpendicular hit). This is overcome by the track/trackpoints formation.
Line 219 "the most probable amount of bars hit was one" I don't understand what this means.
- "the most probable number of bars with a hit was one"
Line 229 "the muon exhibited a clean straight track while the positron showers inside the lead of the KL" I struggled to read this because you switch tense in the sentence. I think it should be "the muon exhibits"
Note the line numbering got messed up here as well (problem with eq (1)
Line 258 "The stations sit at different distances in z (beam axis) of 20–35 cm" -> "adjacent stations were separated by different distances of 20 -35 cm"
Fig. 13 caption "1 mm scintillating fibre light guides" is this tracker jargon? the light guides are not made of scintillating fibre
- Done: "1 mm light guides."
Fig. 14 axis range for sigma pt should be 0 to 5 MeV/c (to be consistent).
- Need to recreate the plots. I have got these (as images) from CH/Melissa and have never been touched since then. I have the code too (is in MAUS).
The caption says "longitudinal momentum" but the plot says "p". Should it be "p_z"
- Actually the plots are correct (if I trust the naming convention in the files) so have changed the text instead.
Line 323 "as generally required in most of the analysis" not really, this is required in TKU but not in TKD.
- True, removed
What is the point of section 6.2? Can it be removed?
- Agree and removed, since, as already noted, I am not showing any result.

My main remark is that the note, as written now, seems a juxtaposition of separate pieces of text on different detectors/items and some effort has to be done to have it in a more coherent fashion, maybe stressing global PID performances as respect to single detector's ones.
- I cannot disagree with you. Only TOF0/TOF1 and TKU have been extensively used for joined PID ("banana plots") but later StepIV analysis have not made much use of any other detector apart from TOFs and Trackers. An attempt is being done now for the lH2 field off scattering analysis, where there is the intent of exploiting all the detectors even with multivariate tecniques. Anyway, I do not think at this stage that any fully comprehensive PID will come along in time for this paper.
